Biographical Sketch
Dr. Amaechi is currently an Associate Professor and Director of Cariology in the Department of Community Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He received his dental degree at the College of Health sciences of the University of Ife in Nigeria. Dr. Amaechi began his career as a dentist with specialist training in prosthetic dentistry and dental implantology at Guy’s Hospital, London in United Kingdom, where he obtained a Master’s degree, and later a PhD degree in Cariology at the University of Liverpool School of Dentistry in United Kingdom. He is presently teaching cariology and clinical preventive dentistry as well as related areas such as early caries detection and management, dental erosion and caries risk management to undergraduate dental students, dental residents and dental hygiene students. He has been invited as guest speaker/lecturer in this field at local, national and international level. His research emphasis is on dental caries, with particular interest in development and evaluation caries preventive agents as well as modern technologies for caries detection and diagnosis. Dr. Amaechi has mentored many students, faculty and fellows in these areas of research. He has received grants and research contracts from industry and National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. He has authored/co-authored numerous journal papers, book chapters, conference proceedings and abstracts in research involving dental Caries and caries diagnostic devices. He serves in numerous professional and scientific committees at institutional, national and international level. He is a frequent presenter in national and international scientific conferences, and a member of numerous professional and scientific organizations, including the European Organization for Caries Research (Elected advisory board member), American Association of Dental Research (President local chapter), International Association for Dental Research and American Dental Education Association.
