Biographical Sketch
Ms. Baez is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Dentistry and Director of the Hispanic Center of Excellence Dentistry (HCOED). The HCOED mission was designed to share information and resources that will better prepare students and faculty to serve the oral health needs of the community. The HCOE-D is supported by federal assistance from the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Division of Health Careers Diversity and Development, Bureau of Health Professionals.
Ms. Baez is Director of the UTHSCSA DS School Based Prevention Program. She is also Course Director for Laboratory and Sealant Clinic, Undergraduate Program, and Coordinator of Educational Resources, Department of Community Dentistry. She also serves as Assistant Professor for Clinical Nutrition.
Ms. Baez is Past President of the Hispanic Dental Association, a professional organization that aims to optimize oral health of Hispanic population in the US. Her main research interests are community based studies as they relate to health promotion and disease prevention. She has collaborated with international scientists on conducting total fluoride exposure studies including renal fluoride excretion. She has coauthored over twenty scientific abstracts. She has served as consultant to various US professional organizations and is a member of the ADA Standards Committee on Dental Products Subcommittee on Oral Care Products.
Prior to joining the faculty at UTHSCSA DS Ms. Baez worked as Coordinator for the City of Chicago, Department of Board of Health, High Risk Clinic, Chicago, Illinois and was a Research Assistant, University of Illinois, School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, Chicago, Illinois.
