Biographical Sketch

Dr. Bober-Moken is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She received her B.A. from Douglass College and a M.S. from Rutgers University. Working as a radiation health physicist, she designed emergency response plans for major nuclear facilities and conducted a dental exposure normalization program for the United States (US) Public Health Service which sparked her interest in dentistry. She earned her DMD in 1981 from New Jersey Dental School and served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force: 16 years as a general dentist. During Desert Shield, Dr. Bober-Moken co-designed the dental section for the expansion of Dover Air Force Base’s Mortuary and conducted forensic identifications during Desert Storm. At Scott AFB, she taught dental radiology and prevention in its A.E.G.D. program. After completing her Master Public Health and receiving her certificate in Dental Public Health, she joined the USAF Office of the Surgeon General conducting research in diabetic retinopathy and dental caries risk assessment and served as the USAF Population Health Support Division’s Dental Public Health Consultant and Interim Commander. She joined the dental faculty in 2004 and her teaching responsibilities include: preclinical and clinical instruction in preventive methodologies as well as being the Course Director for three courses in Ethics and Jurisprudence with both the pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral dental public health residents.

 

Dr. Bober-Moken is a member of the American Dental Association (served as the Treasurer-Secretary of the Panama Canal Dental Society and was an Alternate Delegate to the American Dental Association House of Delegates in 1985), American Academy of Dental History, American Association of Public Health Dentistry. She is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Dentistry International, and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health. Dr. Bober-Moken was elected to membership in the dental honor society Omicron Kappa Upsilon in 1981. Her publications primarily involve dental history or special needs populations.
