Juanita Lozano-Pineda, DDS

Clinical Assistant Professor
Department of Community Dentistry

 

Dr. Juanita Lozano-Pineda is a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of the Predoctoral Dental Outreach Predoctoral Programs at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. She is in the preventive and public health dentistry division of the department of community dentistry.

 

Dr. Pineda, a native of Brownsville, Texas received her baccalaureate degree from St. Mary’s University in 1983 and graduated from the Health Science Center Dental School with honors in May 1987. After four years in private practice and 14 years at the El Centro del Barrio Community Health Center (now Centro Med), she joined the Dental School faculty part time in 2002 and went full time in December 2005.

 

Dr. Pineda is currently the course director for Clinical Preventive Dentistry and directs the outreach programs for South Texas Extramural Rotations. She is involved in service to the community and is a member of several dental school committees. She has worked with dental students since 1990, first as an adjunct faculty member while at El Centro del Barrio and now in the third-year dental student preventive clinic and in extramural clinical rotations to South Texas.

 

Dr. Pineda is a past recipient of an Executive Research Committee Research Enhancement Funds Pilot Grant from the Health Science Center and has participated in a research study of caries prevalence among children with asthma and is also assisting with the Xylitol research study that is currently underway.

 

She is currently enrolled in the Masters in Public Health graduate program from the University of Texas at Houston.
