OHR 2008-027 - New Student Hire Onboarding

The Office of Human Resources is preparing for our new student employee hires.  We have developed a toolkit to provide new hire student packets.  Click on the attached link: http://www.uthscsa.edu/hr/toolkits.htm

Employees are hired in one of two categories:

  •  Non-Regular Employee: an employee who is appointed and whose position is intended to work for less than four and one-half months or less than twenty hours per week (less than 50%time). Non-regular employees are not eligible for benefits or leave entitlements.

  • Regular Employee: an employee who is appointed and whose position is intended to work for at least four and one-half months and at least twenty hours per week (50% time or more). Regular employees are eligible for benefits and leave entitlements.

Please have the student complete the packet and bring the completed documents to Human Resources.  Students must also bring either two forms of identification: one from column B and one from column C or one document from column A as described on the back of the I-9 immigration form.  Please note the I-9 form must be completed within 72 hours from the date of hire.  This will assist our office to expedite and avoid any unnecessary delays for the students.

If you wish to coordinate a group of students for one particular day, please contact Victor Montanez at 7-1200 or Loretta Myles at 7-2602 for assistance.

For student employee policy information and guidelines, please refer to policy 4.3.5 Student Employees

Thank you so much for your support.
