Community Preceptor Program:
The ENT Club is working with several Otolaryngologists in San Antonio to provide an opportunity for students to explore the field of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery through shadowing a physician within the community. Students are encouraged to contact the physician of their choice to arrange details of the experience.

3rd and 4th year clinical rotations:
The clerkship provides clinical experiences in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. The aim is for students to acquire basic skills and competence in:
- interpretation of history
- recognition of normal and abnormal physical findings
- working knowledge of treatment objectives and abnormal physical findings of common disorders of the head, neck, and aero-digestive tract
- evaluation of hearing disorders
- diagnostic and medical management skills
- basic surgical techniques in the head and neck area
Students participate in the surgical and medical care of patients in four subspecialties of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery:
- General Otolaryngology
- Otology
- Head and Neck Oncology
- Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Students will be assigned to either University Hospital or the Veterans Administration Hospital. Daily activities are to include morning and afternoon rounds, clinic attendance and active participation in patient care, and operative patient management. Course Description:
The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery offers a clinical experience in the outpatient, in-patient, and operative environments. The course is normally offered for those senior medical students who are interested in pursuing a career in the field, although the clinical experience is also valuable for students interested in primary care, ophthalmology, and applicable internal medicine subspecialties. The student clerk is a full participatory member of the clinical team and will gain valuable knowledge and experience in the diagnosis, medical, and surgical care of the patient with upper aerodigestive tract and related disorders. The student will have the opportunity to enhance his/her surgical technical skills, including emergency patient care. Clinical acitivities are available at both the University Hospital System and the VA Hospital. Clerkships at BAMC or WHAFMC are arranged through the institution's education office.
Exposure to the breadth and depth of the field includes general and pediatric otolaryngology, rhinosinusology, head and neck oncologic surgery, otology, laryngology and bronchoesophagology, maxillofacial trauma, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
