Dental public health residency students can become board-certified in the dental public health specialty in this one-year residency (two years if done part-time). Our program offers service-learning experiences within dental public health clinics across South Texas, in addition to your coursework and research. We require residents to teach undergraduate dental students, as well as participate in dental research projects and clinical rotations.
The Dental Public Health Residency Program receives a training grant from Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The training grant allows for funds to provide a stipend to individuals who are either U.S. citizens or permanent residents. For candidates who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, other funds may be available to provide a stipend to offset costs during the residency program.
After completion of this residency, you will be prepared for careers in academics, research and administration in local, state or national public health agencies, or work with foundations, nonprofit organizations, insurance companies and other community-based groups.
This program has residents spend a part of the Dental Public Health Residency Program in Laredo conducting dental research, and/or providing preventive services at elementary schools in our school-based prevention program.

This is a competitive residency: Your CV, career objectives in public health, review of an area of public health interest and three letters of recommendation will weigh heavily in the decision-making process.
