Frequently Asked Questions
What do I have to do to register my team?
A: You may fill out a paper copy of the Smoothie King Alied Health Games (AHG) Registration Form* or complete the online registration form by Monday, February 15, 2016. Teams must designate a team captain (who serves as the main contact person for the group). Each team can have between 10-20 members. Registration fees are $5/team member, and cover the participant’s commemorative t-shirt, breakfast, snacks, lunch, and all activities on game day. We ask that team members submit their individual $5 payments to their team captain, so the team captain can then turn in a single check or money order to UTHSCSA.
Check/money orders should be made out to UTHSCSA-School of Health Professions, and can be either delivered in person to the School of Health Professions Office of Admissions and Special Programs or mailed to the following address:
Allied Health Games
Mail Code 7717
7703 Floyd Curl Drive
San Antonio, TX 78229-3900
*If you are completing a paper copy of the registration form, you may submit it to address above.
If you have questions about payment or need assistance with submitting your team’s check or money order, please call (210) 567-6220 or (512) 660-8262.
I’m interested in competing and volunteering for the AHG. Can I do both?
Absolutely! We will need a dedicated group of volunteers to help out at the introductory mixer and for the game-day activities themselves, and if you are interested in assisting, we would love to have you. However, please be mindful that your primary commitment must be to your team—we will need to work to schedule a volunteer duty and time that does not conflict with any events you are participating in. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our volunteer coordinator Alyssa Laurel at firstname.lastname@example.org
What else can I do to prepare for the games?
A: There are three additional, optional ways to score more team points for the AHG event:
1) Make a video about your health field. As a part of the game’s purpose to create awareness of the various allied health fields, teams are asked to create a 1-5 minute YouTube video by Friday, March 11, 2016 that showcases their unique health profession/program. If you are unsure how to upload a YouTube video, follow this step-by-step guide. Once your team has uploaded their video, please let the AHG Committee know by emailing the YouTube link to AlliedHealthGames@gmail.com (or contact us if you are having difficulty and need help). The videos will be viewed during the introductory mixer on Friday, April 15, and the winning entry will be awarded points towards their game-day tally.
2) Collect toys for the children at University Hospital. Another aim of the AHG is to make a charitable contribution in the San Antonio community. This year, the AHG Committee has selected University Hospital as its benefactor. Many sick children pass through the hospital’s halls each day, and there is a need for toys that will bring smiles year-round. As such, we are challenging all teams to gather new toys and books for the children at University Hospital. Each team can bring their group’s collective donation to the introductory mixer on Friday, April 15 for collection. The team with the greatest amount and quality of toys and books will receive bonus points added to their game-day tally.
3) Create a t-shirt for your team. While each team member will receive a commemorative t-shirt following the games, teams are encouraged to coordinate what they wear to the games themselves, in order to stand out and be easily recognized during competition. Whether you and your team decide to make your own shirts, wear the same color, etc. is up to you…however, there will be a Spirit Award issued to the team with the most creative ensemble, and bonus points will be added to that team’s game-day tally.
