Careers for occupational therapists
We already know you’ll be in demand when you graduate from this program, because more than 75 percent of our graduates have OT jobs within six months after graduation. After one year the percentage is usually more than 90 percent.
Our graduates find Occupational Therapy jobs in a variety of settings, including in-patient rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation, home health, long-term facilities, early childhood intervention, school districts and private clinics.
Many of our graduates are able to pick the type of setting and population in which they wish to work.
Our graduates are hired across Texas including San Antonio, Austin, Houston, Dallas, Edinburg, Brownsville and in small towns. Each class has graduates who are hired outside of Texas.
Recent employers include Northside Independent School District, Methodist Hospital System, Pediatric Therapy Associates, Baptist Hospital System, University Hospital, Early Childhood Intervention and a variety of other employers across Texas and national settings.
Because we know you’ll have a wide selection of settings and clients with which to select, we provide one of the highest number of clinical hours among Texas Master of Occupational Therapy programs. Our students take five Level I fieldwork clinicals of 20 to 35 hours each: Early Childhood Intervention, School-based Occupational Therapy settings, Adult Neuromuscular, Adult Biomechanical Disorders and Psychosocial Disorders.
Our students take two Level II Fieldwork clinicals, one in adult disabilities and one in pediatric disabilities. Each Level II clinical is three months long at 40 hours a week.
Our Fieldwork Seminar course prepares them for the clinical environments, so that they are ready to start learning and working from the beginning. In 2014, all students passed all of their Level II Fieldwork Clinicals on the first attempt.
