Ada Montalvo Class of 2015
Ada Montalvo is a natural for a career in the health care field. She attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and Master of Science degree in Health Education and Behavior, both from the University of Florida. She was also an assistant volleyball coach at the Division 1 level, showcasing her excellent leadership skills on the court. When it was time for a change, she decided to move herself and her daughter to San Antonio. Her support system is here, and that, combined with the fact that UT Health Science Center San Antonio has a top Physician Assistant program led her to the Health Science Center.
Her combined experience in coaching, EMT Basic Training, and work as an ER unit clerk prepared her for this career. Specific experience shadowing at University Hospital Trauma and the Center for the Intrepid at Brooke Army Medical Center exposed her to physician assistants, which strengthened her interest in the specialized field.
As for the evolvement of her career, she plans on maintaining a long career as a physician assistant with the orthopaedic group that she accepted a position with before graduation. Stability is important to her. She is excited to be a part of the PA world. Having that one-on-one interaction with patients keeps her motivated every day, and it’s no surprise she lives by these wise words from Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
