Corey Mowen Class of 2015
Corey’s original career plans were to be an engineer and go into the business world.
After a suggestion to consider the physical therapy field, he took the initiative to observe and volunteer at two clinics, including Zach’s Club and South Plains Rehab Clinic, near Texas Tech where he earned his Bachelor of Science. His favorite experience came from his time volunteering at South Plains Rehab Clinic, where he was able to assist and witness the full recovery of a patient with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a nervous system disorder that causes weakness, loss of reflexes and numbness in the arms, face and legs.
In searching for a quality program right here at home in San Antonio, the friendly, open and welcoming environment at the Health Science Center was an obvious choice. He was able to pursue physical therapy near his own family, and he gained a second family with the UT Health Science Center San Antonio.
Corey advises newcomers to seek out a little bit of everything so they can see what appeals to them the most and can attain experience in all areas along the way.
Since he has always been business-minded, Corey sees hospital management or ownership of his own clinic in his future, and attaining an MBA or Manual Therapy Certification. Either way it’s stretched, pulled or prodded, his future looks bright and promising.
