Eric Elizondo Class of 2014
Eric Elizondo started his journey in a life of service when he joined the U.S. Air Force 16 years ago. His transition into the emergency health field happened by fate. A friend invited him to take the fire department test, and Eric said “why not.” He figured it would be great if he got in, but was ready for whatever results came his way.
When the results were revealed, Eric passed the test and got in, but his friend did not.
After he was an official firefighter and up for promotion, required higher education from the UT Health Science Center San Antonio came into play. Eric started his coursework toward a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Health Sciences in 2013.
The best part about the Emergency Health Sciences program at UT Health Science Center San Antonio for Eric was that the curriculum was completely available online. This convenience allowed him to continue his work with the Fire Department and Air Force while completing his academic requirements for promotion. He even completed his last six months of coursework while deployed in Kuwait.
Today, Eric is a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, an engineer-level firefighter with the San Antonio Fire Department, and a lifetime alumnus of the Emergency Health Sciences department at UT Health Science Center San Antonio. There is no place to go but up.
