Shirhonda Johnson Class of 2014
Shirhonda Johnson, a San Antonio native and Baylor University alumna is a nontraditional student. She initially wanted to go into Occupational or Physical Therapy, but life happened and pulled her in multiple directions. She stands as an example for others who have doubts about following their passions, or who are going through transitions that may be holding them back.
She chose the UT Health Science Center because it is in San Antonio where she was already established, and it has a great Occupational Therapy program. She says the best things about the program are that advisors and staff within the department provide specialized attention to issues and provide advice and options to stay in the program, even amidst serious life changes.
Today, she is an Occupational Therapist for the Northside Independent School District in San Antonio. She credits field work and volunteer opportunities with NISD organized by the Health Science Center for the experience that transformed into a career for her.
