Philosophical underpinning for ACET
ACET was established on the principle that "teaching and learning are scholarly activities." ACET promotes excellence in teaching and learning, enhances the teaching-learning environment, and enhances student-centered learning. With education a primary part of the university mission, ACET emphasizes the value of scholarship in this academic area and puts in place multiple initiatives that promote, support, reward, facilitate, and evaluate teaching. For ACET to achieve its purposes, it must be perceived by the faculty and administration as being on the same level as other academic centers of excellence within the university and not as a service activity. In relation to teaching programs in various UTHSCSA components, ACET should serve a higher order of teaching and learning support, should complement component programs, and should avoid duplication.
