Informatics Services provides informatics services and tools to
support the instruction and research activities of UTHSCSA faculty and
students. The department's divisions and services include:
distributed learning and
educational research and development.
THE MISSION of Academic Informatics Services is to provide information technology and instructional process services to support the educational and research goals of the Health Science Center community. AIS services include the following:
- Consult with faculty to develop, implement and evaluate curricula, courses and other educational programs.
- Support and contribute to faculty efforts to implement innovations in teaching, learning, and information technology.
- Provide professional development services for faculty to enhance their skills in teaching, evaluation and research.
- Assist faculty to obtain extramural support for education and research.
- Plan, pilot-test and implement web-based strategies for research collaboration including electronic mechanisms for document sharing and editing, database management and online meetings.
- Develop, promote and deliver distance learning programs including videoconferences, audioconferences and online courses.
- Design, install and support the Health Science Center's instructional technology infrastructure and facilities.
- Provide information technology-based systems to capture, analyze, interpret, and report research and educational data.
- Maintain and repair electronic devices used in research laboratories.
- Design and fabricate customized electronic equipment for research that is not commercially available.
