CBN Mission Statement

The primary mission of the Center for Biomedical Neuroscience (CBN) is to enhance and promote the discipline of neuroscience at the Health Science Center (HSC), by serving as an umbrella organization for research and teaching activities related to the discipline.  Neuroscience is the science of the nervous system.  It includes diverse areas such as neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, neuropharmacology and neuropsychology.  Neuroscientists work synergistically sharing a common language, common concepts, and a common goal - to understand the structure and function of the brain in health and disease.

These goals will be accomplished by the CBN:

  1. promoting scientific collaborations and interactions among neuroscientists at the HSC and with those at neighboring institutions as well,
  2. promoting the rational development of neuroscience at the HSC,
  3. recruiting graduate and post-graduate students of high caliber in the neurosciences to the HSC,
  4. developing didactic courses for students and residents in this field and training them to become outstanding investigators,
  5. increasing public awareness of issues and research in the neurosciences,
  6. providing a focus at the HSC for private and industrial donors interested in general support for this discipline
