Every spring, the Center for Biomedical Neuroscience (CBN) sponsors the Annual Brain Bowl, the premier event at the Health Science Center for the nationally celebrated Brain Awareness Week. The Brain Bowl is a neuroscience quiz show, modeled after the old University Challenge, in which three teams of undergraduates from colleges and universities across Texas compete for prizes and the coveted Brain Bowl trophy.
The first Brain Bowl was held in 1998 with Dr. David Morilak serving as the developer, and ever since he has been its coordinator, organizer, and emcee. Over the years, the Brain Bowl has attracted teams from Texas Lutheran University, St. Mary's University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, Trinity University, Southwestern University, Baylor University, and the current reigning champions, University of Texas.
A social reception after the competition provides a venue for establishing lasting contacts and a network between highly talented and motivated undergraduate students who are specifically interested in pursuing graduate education and research in neuroscience, as well as their undergraduate advisors and faculty mentors, with the neuroscience community at the HSC.
This year's Brain Bowl will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15th in room 209L. Teams from the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, and Trinity University will compete for this year's trophy!
