CHARGE:

To serve in an advisory and consultative capacity to the President and the Vice President for Research, and to work with and assist the Radiation Safety Office; to review all license applications and authorize all licenses, appending special conditions as needed; to act as an avenue of appeal in cases of dispute and exception; and to be responsible for policies and practices regarding license and use of radioactive materials and sources of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation at the Health Science Center. The implementation of the Radiation Safety Program is delegated to the Radiation Safety Officer. This committee is mandated by TDH policy.

Term of membership: Three years

Additional information: Committee meets the second Monday of even months.  Experience or and interest in the safe receipt, use, storage and disposal of radioactive material or the use of ionizing radiation is highly desirable.  The moderate workload includes peer review of proposed research protocols and clinical trials prior to the meetings.  Task force or subcommittees may meet between full committee meetings.  Tenured or non-tenured faculty are welcome.
