Training Programs
All Practice Plan providers, residents and MSRDP/UT Medicine personnel involved in preparing, documenting or submitting requests for reimbursement to Federal health care programs are required to take clinical documentation and coding trainings. Other trainings may be required based on a provider's specialty as required by their Department Chair.
The content of these modules are educational only, and are designed to address the University's specific documentation requirements according to the current interpretation of existing Medicare and Medicaid rules and regulations. Also, these modules are informational only and not intended as legal advice.
Inpatient Coding
Providers will be required to code the following inpatient services: admits, discharges, daily care, inpatient consults, observations, and simple procedures. All other inpatient services will be coded by coders. There will be two mechanisms for providers to be cleared for inpatient coding: self-study or a live training session.
Self-Study Inpatient Coding
Below is a PowerPoint presentation that highlights the inpatient codes and how they are used. Once you have coded the cases on the fee tickets (need to complete CPT code, diagnosis, etc.), then complete the coversheet below and return to the Office of Regulatory Affairs & Compliance by January 21, 2009.
Once the Office of Regulatory Affairs & Compliance has graded the cases, they will notify the provider and Chair by e-mail. If the provider does pass, then they will be cleared for coding inpatient services. If not, they will be required to take a live training session as discussed below.
