Congratulations to Olivia Pereira-Smith and Kaoru Tominaga! They have just learned that their paper on the role of MRG15 in RNA splicing has been accepted for publication in Science.

Congratulations to Arlan Richardson and Dave Sharp! Dr. Arlan Richardson, P.I. and Dr. Dave Sharp, Co-P.I. has received a two-year, NIA grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for "Can Rapamycin Retard Age-Related Diseases?".
Congratulations to Steven Austad! He will receive an R01 grant from the NIA titled, "Mechanisms of Exceptional Longevity in the World's Longest-Lived Animal".
Congratulations to Manjeet Rao! He has learned that his R01 will be funded.
Congratulation to LuZhe Sun! LuZhe has been named the Dielmann Endowed Chair in Oncology and the Associate Director for Translational Research at the CTRC.

Congratulations to Damon Herbert! He has received word that NIA is funding a proposal that is a summer research program in which undergraduate students will be working in the labs of faculty engaged in aging research. They may be on the main campus or at the Barshop.
Congratulations to Kay Oyajobi! Kay has been selected to serve 3-4 years as a Chartered member of NCI-F Subcommittee (Training and Manpower). The committee reviews K99/R00 and institutional T32s for NCI.
Congratulations to Yidong Bai and Qitao Ran! Dr. Bai and Dr. Ran were recently elected as a GSBS Representative to the Faculty Senate.

Dr. Susan L. Naylor honored at robotics tournament (HSC News 3/24/09)
Northwest Vista College's Texas Institute for Educational Robotics (TIER) has selected Dr. Susan Naylor as an honored namesake for one of the divisions at the 1st Annual Tech Challenge. The Championship tournament for the FIRST Tech Challenge will be held on Sunday March 15th at the AT&T Center. The opening ceremonies begin at 10:30 AM and the awards ceremony will begin at 5:30 PM.
Division names at the events are chosen to honor famous scientists and engineers in the San Antonio Area. The names for the current two divisions are Dr. Francis X. Kane and Dr. Susan Naylor. This decision was made after a brief consultation with researcher and futurist Jim Brazell an expert of the history of science and technology in the San Antonio area. (3/13/09)
