The induction ceremony will be held at the 6th Annual Innovations in Health Science Education Conference

Welcome to the web home for the Department of Cellular & Structural Biology. We invite you to enter for a tour of the Department. A vibrant and enthusiastic group of 34 tenured or tenure track faculty, 18 research track faculty, 5 teaching track faculty, 12 postdoctoral fellows, 26 predoctoral fellows, 11 master of science students, 27 laboratory staff, 13 administrative staff, and 3 emeritus professors comprise the driving force of the Department in research, teaching and service.

 

Biomedical research is a key mission and activity in the Department. Cellular & Structural Biology Faculty have consistently competed successfully for extramural funding and as a group have frequently ranked among the top 10 in NIH funding among similar departments.

 

Major Research Themes in the Department include:

An emerging research theme is Stem Cell Biology. Increasing numbers of faculty are beginning to study stem cell populations relevant to their work. We expect this new area to grow and become one of the major themes in the Department. The Research Interests of departmental faculty are diverse leading to an inherent multidisciplinary approach to research.

 

We are determined to provide the highest quality teaching and training as the next generation of scientists, physicians, dentists and allied health professionals develop and master the skills and knowledge necessary for their professions. We invite you to explore the opportunities available to students passionate about research and becoming a biomedical scientist. You will find that our faculty are recipients of numerous Teaching Awards. A major part of our departmental identity is founded in teaching excellence throughout the various schools of the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. We are pleased to contribute to the outstanding educational experiences found in each of the schools that comprise the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio.
