In recognizing his outstanding contributions, the Kevin J. Donly, DDS, Endowed Distinguished Professorship in Pediatric Dentistry has been perpetually established to benefit the Department of Developmental Dentistry's pediatric program at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The endowment will be crucial in supporting various initiatives within the department, including faculty development, enhanced benefits such as awards to offset continuing education costs, support for research endeavors in pediatric dentistry and additional compensation.

Last month, the School of Dentistry held a special celebration in honor of Kevin Donly, DDS, to surprise him with the newly established endowment upon his retirement. The event was attended by distinguished guests, including School of Dentistry Dean Peter M. Loomer, alumni, residents, faculty, staff and friends of Donly. Together they raised over $325,000 with plans to grow the endowment further to a chair, a fitting tribute to Donly's distinguished career and service.

Formerly a professor and chair of the Department of Developmental Dentistry in the School of Dentistry, Donly's journey through academia left an indelible mark. His career has seen him in pivotal roles, including professor and associate director of the Center for Clinical Studies at the University of Iowa and an associate professor in pediatric dentistry at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry. Additionally, he held the position of associate professor at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School.

A diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, Donly has been at the forefront of professional organizations, serving as the past president of the American Society of Dentistry for Children and as the past chair of the Public Information Committee for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. His commitment to the field extends to his roles on the Board of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Foundation and the American Dental Association Foundation. Donly's influence extends beyond his leadership roles. He has made significant contributions to academic literature, with a portfolio boasting over 250 chapters, manuscripts and abstracts associated with pediatric dentistry and dental restorative materials research and clinical utilization.

This newly established endowment aims to retain and attract the best and most qualified faculty, ensuring a thriving future for pediatric dentistry at UT Health Science Center San Antonio. Donly's legacy continues to shape the landscape of dental education and research, impacting the next generation of dental professionals.
