Diabetes
The Diabetes Division, under the direction of Ralph A. DeFronzo, M.D., is the world’s premier diabetes group for combining clinical investigation with basic research. The group’s interests focus on the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, including the etiology of insulin resistance and beta cell failure, the molecular links between insulin resistance and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, definition of genes responsible for type 2 diabetes in Mexican Americans, beta cell preservation, and the development of novel therapies for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
