Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC)
The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Regional Academic Health Center (RAHC) is the premier institute for medical education and research in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
Two divisions of the RAHC are operated by the Health Science Center – a Medical Education Division in Harlingen and a Medical Research Division in Edinburg. A third RAHC facility, the Public Health Division in Brownsville, is operated by the U.T. Health Science Center at Houston.
The RAHC’s facility in Harlingen, dedicated in June 2002, was built through state tuition revenue bonds and includes modern teaching facilities for medical students and residents.
The RAHC’s state-of-the-art research facility in Edinburg, dedicated in April 2006, was funded by $20 million from The University of Texas System’s Permanent University Funds. Research there will focus on diseases that disproportionally affect the border populations of South Texas.
