COMPREHENSIVE OPHTHALMOLOGIST
The Ophthalmology Department of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) is seeking a full-time or near full-time board certified/eligible comprehensive ophthalmologist (Subspecialists will also be considered.) with an interest in diabetes-related ocular disorders. The position will be at the Texas Diabetes Institute in downtown San Antonio, Texas. This facility is a collaborative effort between Bexar County University Health System and UTHSCSA. The Ophthalmology Clinic of this multispecialty institute provides comprehensive eye care to diabetics. It is a busy medical and surgical practice, with emphasis on the management of diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and cataracts; subspecialty support is provided by the Department. The position also has academic responsibilities, with occasional supervision of residents and medical students as well as providing didactic sessions. Opportunities exist for clinical research. The position is one of two full-time comprehensive ophthalmologists at this site, and along with an optometrist, sees over 13,000 patients annually. Rank and academic track will be commensurate with the applicant's credentials. Must possess a Texas medical license or become licensed in Texas. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. Salary is competitive and there is a generous benefit package.
