Engineering and Project Management
The Engineering and Project Management Division is divided into 2 subdivisions:
- Project Management and Construction
- Engineering and Planning & Design
Project Management and Construction
The Project Management Division is staffed with experienced professionals that have been highly trained in managing projects. With expertise consisting of years of experience, professional certifications, and extensive training in project management techniques, these highly trained personnel supervise and coordinate both in-house and contractors in the completion of projects. Project Managers are assigned to projects that contain complex interactions of trades and/or coordination with external contractors. Smaller projects are managed by the Construction Division Superintendent and Trade Shop Supervisors.
The Construction Division has comprehensive shops consisting of multi-disciplined trades. With Cabinetmakers, Carpenters, Electricians, Engravers, Masons, Painters, Plumbers, and Sheet metal Workers, the ability to tackle almost any project is available using HSC personnel. Expertise consists of Master Electricians, Master Plumbers and other professionals with 30+ years of experience with Medical Facilities Construction. This gives unparalleled flexibility in scheduling completion and responding to contingency situations.
With a full cadre of support contractors to fill any short term requirements, the HSC has the ability to provide quality construction services. Everything from minor office renovations to multi-million dollar lab renovations are within the capabilities and expertise of the in-house construction professionals.
The Project Management and Construction Divisions report to the Director of Engineering and Project Management. The Superintendent of Construction oversees the daily operations of the Construction Division. The Project Management and Construction divisions have approximately 6o employees.

Engineering and Planning & Design
The Engineering and Planning & Design division is staffed with multi-disciplined, highly trained professionals. With mechanical and electrical Engineers as well as architects available
in-house to analyze and design projects, the capability to assist the UTHSCSA community in evaluating and completing complex projects is readily available. In addition to the engineering and design staff, Facilities Management also has a division consisting of experienced CAD operators/draftsmen that maintain the internal plans and drawings for the UTHSCSA facilities and are constantly involved with the field verification and development of projects.
The University has numerous architect and engineering firms on-call to assist with specialty designs as well as to provide additional construction services as required to meet our customers needs.
The Project Management and Construction Divisions report to the Director of Engineering and Project Management. The Engineering, Planning and Design division has approximately 15 employees.
