Renovation of McDermott
Laboratory Animal Resources
(LAR) Spaces
With combined efforts from the Department of Lab Animal Resources and Facilities Management, a large portion of the McDermott LAR space is being renovated for better flow through the labs and operating rooms.
The scope of work includes expanding existing animal holding rooms into adjacent anterooms including a new necropsy room. Necropsy comes from the Greek nekros-dead body and opsis –sight. It is basically an autopsy of a non-human body. Labs will receive a facelift with the addition of new metal cabinets and new stainless steel sinks and countertops. New safety eyewashes will be located at each new steel countertop. The heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system will be updated with new controls to be able to “talk” to the Main Control Room at the Central Campus and will provide safe and healthy building conditions. The project will begin on November 8, 2010 with completion scheduled for February 15, 2011.
