Research Interests:
Contemporary and historical traditions of integrative medicine along the US-Mexico border, with an emphasis on Mexican American herbalism and curanderismo. Seek to enhance understanding of the role of cultural values and beliefs as they pertain to health-seeking behaviors and treatment choice. Currently engaged in research on stress, perinatal depression, and alternative medicine use among Latinas. Research methods combine ethnography, epidemiology, and cross-cultural psychology. Doctoral research examined the domain of reproductive health beliefs and behavior among indigenous Mayans of southeastern Chiapas.
