· "HOW TO START A PRACTICE" Seminar: 6-9 PM, April 5th, Room 3.102 B in UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. Learn the fine details and see the big picture in this seminar geared toward helping you start your new practice next year. Congratulations to our newly elected officers: President: Farrokh Farrokhi, M.D. (PGY-3), VP: Raj Kakar, M.D (PGY-1), Secretary: Maurice Sholas, M.D. Ph.D..

CURRENT ISSUES:

· NO increases are planned for resident salaries. We'll need a raise soon to keep from falling off the BOTTOM of the Texas residency salary list AGAIN. The HSC Benefits Committee is lobbying for all of us. Get active! Attend HSC meetings or email us learn how you can help keep us out of the salary basement.

· HSC Officer Goals:
1. Pay raise
2. Increased social events
3. Educational seminars such as financial planning, practice set-up, etc.
4. Improved Call Rooms
5. Physician Dining Room
6. Improved Quality of Cafeteria
Do you have different ideas? Do you disagree with the above? Get active, share your thoughts/energy!

· HSC Plans for Upcoming April Meeting:
1. Creation of office of Treasurer, to be elected at April's meeting
2. Salary increases: looking for new members to assist in the HSC Benefits Committee
3. New Intern/Resident Orientation: planning and organizing a July Fiesta Texas Picnic

If you are interested in serving on/leading any of the other HSC committees (Benefits, Medical Records, Social etc.) or have an idea for a new committee/issue, please come to a meeting, contact an HSC officer or send us an email.

"NEWS YOU CAN USE"

· Did you know? According to a recent court decision, Residents/Interns are considered medical students and can therefore RECLAIM ALL their FICA withholdings, retroactively! If you'd like more information including the exact court decision, the necessary forms in html format and a petition letter in Microsoft Word format, email Denise Gonzales at: unaamazona@aol.com.
