MHCOE is collaborating with the Departments of Family Practice and Internal Medicine to develop and implement a strategic plan to 'infuse' cultural competence into the medical school curriculum. As part of this project, the MHCOE is developing information resources such as a library of case vignettes that can be requested by all UTHSCSA faculty.

MHCOE:

• Provided consultation to the Introduction to Patient Care in the Clinical Integration Course in the development of introductory educational experiences for MS1. Activities were also developed via the MHCOE grant for the Advance Clinical Evaluation Skills Course.
• Facilitated the training of 30 culturally relevant simulated patients for the ACES course by the end of the 1999-2000 academic year.
• Partner with Educational Research and Development to develop cultural competence training opportunities for the UTHSCSA faculty by the end of the academic year 2001-2002.
• To continue to offer Medical Spanish Selective for credit throughout the funding period.
