The mission of the Medical Hispanic Center of Excellence is to improve the health of Hispanics in South Texas by increasing the Hispanic health care and research workforce. The aims of the MHCOE are to increase Hispanic recruitment by strengthening the pipeline of students entering the health profession; improving Hispanic student academic performance from high school through professional school; improving resources, curricular and clinical experiences in Hispanic health for all UTMSSA faculty and students; fostering Hispanic faculty and student research related to Hispanic health issues; and expanding formal local, regional and national partnerships between educational institutions and other organizations with parallel missions.
