OHR 2008-018 - Time Off For Voting
The Office of Human Resources has received several questions from departments concerning whether or not employees may be given time off during working hours for voting in tomorrow’s primary elections. In accordance with Handbook of Operating Procedures policy 4.7.24, when it is not possible for an employee to vote before or after normal working hours on a national, state or local election day, supervisors are authorized to grant a reasonable period of time off for voting. All employees are eligible for time off to vote.
To take advantage of time off to vote, employees:
•
Should be currently registered voters.
•
Must request the time off in advance and have the request approved by the supervisor.
Employees that meet these conditions should have no reduction in vacation allowance or salary for the time taken to vote. Please remind supervisors in your department of this policy and its provisions.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions with respect to this policy.
