As employees of the Health Science Center, we have an important benefit that provides assistance to us and members of our immediate family when life’s inevitable problems occur. These problems can drain us of energy, interfere with our personal lives, and make it difficult to focus on our jobs. It is estimated that one employee in ten, at any given point in time, has problems severe enough to interfere with work.
The Health Science Center provides a place for us to get help with such problems through our Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP provides up to eight free, confidential counseling sessions for employees and immediate family members. An EAP counselor will assist in getting longer term care for those problems that can not be fully addressed in eight sessions.
For the past several years, EAP services have been provided by the Family Service Association. These services are now provided internally by the University’s Department of Psychiatry. To contact the EAP, please call 567-5555 (during business hours) or 592-0400 (after hours emergencies only), identify yourself as a Health Science Center employee or dependent wishing to use the EAP, and schedule an appointment. It may be the most important phone call you EVER make!
