The Uniformed Services Re-employment Rights Act (USERRA) prohibits job discrimination against employees who leave work to serve in the U.S. military. The law applies to all branches of the military, including the Armed Forces Reserve, the National Guard and other uniformed services. It does not matter whether the military service is voluntary. (Click here to view the poster.)

When the employee returns from military duty, USERRA also protects his/her rights to:

- be rehired;
- have benefits restored; and
- receive any merit or across-the-board raises he/she would have otherwise received.

Employees of, and employees who are, members of the National Guard and Reserves may access information relative to their rights and responsibilities.

Please read through this toolkit to find all the ways USERRA could impact you as a supervisor and protect you as an employee who leaves for military duty.
