San Antonio gerontologist to edit online textbook

Toni P. Miles, M.D., professor of family and community medicine at
The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, has been named
co-editor-in-chief of eMedicine.com's geriatrics textbook.
The eMedicine
Internet site is a medical education network and the developer of the first
online, peer-reviewed medical reference library. The site includes 62 reference
books covering every major medical specialty. The information is available from
the Internet with radiographic images, photographs, and audio and video clips.
The medical content is produced by thousands of academic physicians who are
recognized as experts in their specialties.
Dr. Miles will
share co-editor-in-chief duties with Dr. Marie A. Bernard from the University
of Oklahoma College of Medicine.
Dr. Scott Plantz,
CEO and co-founder of eMedicine Inc., said, "We are honored to have two
physicians with Dr. Bernard's and Dr. Miles' sterling credentials join our
project as editors-in-chief."
Dr. Miles is
associate director of clinical research for the Health Science Center's Aging
Research and Education Center, and holds academic affiliations with the
University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health and the University of Illinois
School of Public Health.
She is a
diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and a member of the
Gerontological Society of America, the American Geriatrics Society and the
Society for Epidemiology Research.
