UTHSC researcher heads ASCO membership committee

Charles R. Thomas Jr., M.D., associate
professor and vice chairman in the department of radiation oncology at The
University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, is the new chair of
the membership committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
Dr. Thomas also is adjunct associate professor in the division of medical
oncology, part of the Health Science Center’s department of medicine.
Founded
in 1964, ASCO has 16,000 members and is one of the largest cancer-specialty
organizations in the world. It is one of the fastest growing specialty forums
in medicine.
Dr.
Thomas previously served on the Audit and Finance Committee for ASCO and has
been instrumental in helping build the organization’s membership base. Members
come from a variety of cancer-related specialties.
Dr. Thomas continues in the tradition of active
leadership within ASCO previously forged by other cancer physicians specializing
in cancer research at the Health Science Center and the San Antonio Cancer
Institute, which is a partnership between the Health Science Center and the
Cancer Therapy & Research Center.
