Watch for Oral Cancer (1-24-02)
About 30,000 Americans each year are affected by oral cancer. Surprisingly, a quarter of the cases are in people who do not use tobacco or alcohol. Take control of your oral health by watching for signs of the disease that kills one American every hour.
Warning signs include:
- A sore that bleeds easily or does not heal
- A color change in oral tissue
- A lump, thickening, rough spot, crust or small eroded area
- Pain, tenderness or numbness anywhere in the mouth or on the lips
