Professor receives award for mental health practice

Mark Soucy, Ph.D., A.P.R.N., clinical assistant professor in family nursing, has received the 2004 Nurse Practice Award from the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses.

At Methodist Children’s Hospital, Dr. Soucy works with children who have leukemia or other life threatening illnesses and who are undergoing chemotherapy, bone marrow transplantations and recovery.

Dr. Soucy is a member of the Association of Children and Adolescent Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurses, the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses, the Southern Nursing Research Society, and the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care. He has also been included in the Marquis’ Who’s Who in American Nursing database.

Dr. Soucy is working on the Children’s Hospital Palliative Care Initiative. His research interests include fatigue in people with HIV and symptom management in chronic and terminal illnesses.
