The department of medicine recently conducted its 7th Annual Research Day that brought together investigators from all 16 divisions of the department, as well as many investigators from other departments.

“This was an occasion to celebrate the excellent research being done by our faculty and trainees,” said Robert A. Clark, M.D., professor and chairman of the department of medicine. “We all learned a great deal as we gained further understanding of the many contributions of department of medicine investigators over a wide range of basic and clinical research.”

These faculty and research trainees participated in oral and poster presentations, a panel discussion on “Research Strategies in the Post-Genomic Era,” and a dinner and awards ceremony on May 25.

Richard Locksley, M.D., professor of medicine and microbiology/immunology at the University of California at San Francisco was the department’s distinguished guest for the event. He participated in the panel discussion and presented a lecture on “Tracking the Activation of Immunity in vivo.”

Research Day was supported in part by unrestricted educational grants from the following companies: Pfizer Inc., Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Fisher Scientific.

Of the 99 abstracts submitted, four awards were presented in the resident/student category, three in the clinical fellow category, two in the post-doctoral category and two in the junior faculty category.
