Martha Baez, R.D.H., M.P.H, assistant professor of community dentistry, has been included in the Top Latinas list in the June issue of
Hispanic Magazine.
Each year
Hispanic Magazine lists top Latinas from around the nation in various careers who have been recognized for their outstanding work in their fields. These categories include: arts and entertainment, business, community service, education, government and political organizations, health and sciences, sports, science and technology, and journalism and communication.
Baez is course director of the Health Science Center’s School-Based Prevention Program in which dental students engage in dental disease prevention activities conducted at school districts in San Antonio. She is also the president of the Hispanic Dental Association (HDA). The mission of the HDA is to optimize the oral health of the Hispanic community.
Her main interests are community access to care and studies on fluoride exposure. She was a recipient of the “Las Estrellas” award on education granted by the Mexican American Business and Professional Women’s Club of San Antonio, as well as the Health Science Center’s Women’s Faculty Association Award that honors women faculty for their service to the community. She has also been recognized by the National Hispanic Medical Association this year for the leadership in improving the health of Hispanics.
