The dental diagnostic science department is hosting an open house in honor of the new departmental research laboratory at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, Room 2.580U in the Dental School.
The 1,975-square-foot facility, located in the oral medicine subdivision of the department, has recently been redesigned and equipped with cutting edge technology.
The lab will serve as infrastructure for the translational research in oral cancer being conducted by Martin Thornhill, Ph.D., B.D.S., professor and chairman of dental diagnostic science. A specialized image analysis system, which will enable researchers to clarify the mechanisms that govern tumor metastasis through the blood and lymphatics, will also be featured in the lab.
Silvana Papagerakis, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of dental diagnostic science, lead the completion of the new research facilities.
