Teaching Excellence and Academic Skills (TEXAS) presents professional development worksops and courses to enhance teaching and scholarship at the Health Science Center. TEXAS programs are available without charge.
TEXAS programs are conducted by the division of educational research and development in the department of academic informatics services. Over the past three years the TEXAS program has presented 166 programs with a total attendance of more than 5,000.

This laboratory workshop introduces participants to UTHSCSA Virtual, an electronic virtual community that allows participants to interact in real time with colleagues down the hall or across the country without leaving the office. Participants learn the capabilities of UTHSCSA Virtual, participate in a virtual meeting and use the shared desktop feature of UTHSCSA Virtual. Participants will explore factors that influence the how, when and why of learning. They will complete tests to assess how their brains process information and make sense of it. Key topics include: how expertise develops and components of expertise including pop-up and dial-up memory, evolution of self-perception as learner’s progress from novice to expert and motivation from the learner’s point of view.
