The School of Nursing’s Delta Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the nursing honor society, is combining with the nursing honor society of the University of Incarnate Word’s School of Nursing to form a Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Chapter at large.
“This merger will facilitate communication between the two university-level nursing programs and promote nursing scholarship,” said Darlene Gilcreast, R.N., Ph.D., assistant professor in the chronic nursing care department in the School of Nursing. “We want to be good neighbors and dialogue improves our productive efforts on behalf of professional nursing.”
The two societies will be brought together in a chartering ceremony at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, in the University of Incarnate Word’s Sky Room, 4301 Broadway. Dr. Carol Jorgensen Huston, R.N., an officer of the Sigma Theta Tau International Board, will conduct the chartering ceremony and induct nursing students and nurse leaders who meet professional criteria and high academic standards.
The partnership will work to find solutions for the shortage of professional nurses.
“This partnership represents collaboration between the two universities to improve communication and nursing education standards,” Dr. Gilcreast said.
