New Faculty: Raymond L. Stallings, Ph.D.

Raymond L. Stallings, Ph.D., professor in the Children’s Cancer Research Institute and department of pediatrics, joined the Health Science Center faculty in May. Prior to his arrival, Dr. Stallings was chief scientist at the National Centre for Medical Genetics, Dublin and a member of the faculty at the Medical School and The Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research at University College Dublin, Ireland. He has also held faculty positions at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Hospital, The Los Alamos National Laboratory and The University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Stallings is a member of the United Kingdom Children’s Cancer Study Group, the European Cytogeneticists Association and the Association of Clinical Cytogeneticists. He is also a member of the British Society of Human Genetics, The Human Genome Organization (HUGO) and the American Association of Cancer Research.

He has written a major text book, several book chapters and published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals on the topics of genetics and childhood cancer. He has been invited to give presentations at many national and international meetings and universities. His current research interests include understanding the molecular determinants of pediatric cancer.

Dr. Stallings received a doctorate in genetics from The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston. He earned a master’s degree in genetics and a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Texas A&M University, College Station.
