Visiting faculty

Dr. Joseph Rajendran (right) receives a certificate of appreciation from Charles R. Thomas, M.D., professor and vice-chair of the department of radiation oncology. The department of radiation oncology hosted Dr. Rajendran, as a visiting faculty member on Aug. 8. Dr. Rajendran is a faculty member within the division of nuclear medicine at the University of Washington, School of Medicine in Seattle. Dr. Rajendran presented two translational research seminars titled, “Nuclear Medicine Radiation Oncology Interaction - Imaging Biology, Guiding Therapy” and “Tumor Hypoxia - Old Problem, New Solutions.”



Weight Watchers program begins Sept. 8

If you’re looking to get in shape, then you may be interested in joining the Weight Watcher’s program. A new 16-week session begins Wednesday, Sept. 8. Meetings are held at noon every Wednesday in the University Hospital third-floor cafeteria Optimist Room. The fee is $165 for 16 meetings. Freezers for sale

Instrumentation Services has two freezers for sale. The first unit is a Forma Scientific Upright Ultra Low Freezer 110VAC with a lock and key unit alarm system hookup. It has 13 cubic feet of storage space. The unit is -75C low limit. The manual is available. The 1983 unit is selling for $1,200. The second unit is a Forma Scientific Upright Ultra Low Freezer 110VAC with lock and key with unit alarm system hookup has nine cubic feet with 4 storage bins. The unit is a -40C low limit. The 2002 unit is selling for $1,500.

In addition Instrumentation Services is also selling a Deteco Patient Scale for $100, Mayo Table for $35 and a Baxter Centrifuge, model 3611 and maximum speed 3000 RPM, for $150. For more information call Julie Saenz at (210) 567-2999 or send an e-mail to saenzjs@uthscsa.edu.



Alliance sponsors international evening Sept. 10

The university community is invited to attend the International Alliance-sponsored “International Evening: Australia” at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, in the Dental School cafeteria. Everyone who attends is asked to bring a plate of food to share, preferably representative of their country, for the international food tasting. The food tasting will be followed by a program on Australia.
