Educational Research and Development is now accepting registrations for the 28th annual UTHSCSA Teaching Excellence Course (UTEC). This 32-hour professional development program is a tradition at the Health Science Center as nearly 1,000 faculty, fellows and residents have completed UTEC since 1976.
The 2004 UTEC will be conducted Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m., Sept. 15 to Dec. 15.
UTEC is conducted in workshop format to allow participants hands-on practice with key teacher tasks such as evaluating students, writing tests, teaching effectively in the classroom, planning courses, teaching psychomotor skills, providing feedback, Web-based learning and intervening with students who are difficult. Participants also explore cognitive theories and research, review educational best practices and complete teaching self-assessment exercises.
UTEC is open to Health Science Center faculty, fellows, residents and staff with teaching responsibilities. There is no registration fee. To register, call Bill Hendricson, UTEC director, at (210) 567-2813 or send an e-mail to
hendricson@uthscsa.edu.
