The Hispanic Faculty Association invites Health Science Center faculty, staff and students to attend Hispanic Heritage Week 2004. The opening ceremony for the week’s activities will be on Monday, Sept. 20.
A scientific and clinical poster display for Health Science Center students and faculty will be held from 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20 to Thursday, Sept. 23, in the Briscoe Library Foyer.
The events for the week are listed below:
Monday, Sept. 2011:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.An opening ceremony will be held at the School of Nursing Auditorium with entertainment from Voces de San Antonio. The keynote speaker for the ceremony is Dr. Ricardo Romo, president of The University of Texas at San Antonio. Steven A. Wartman, M.D., Ph.D., executive vice president for academic and health affairs at the Health Science Center and dean of the School of Medicine, will introduce Dr. Romo. Presentation of the Miguel Medina Excellence Awards to students, staff and faculty will follow.
Tuesday, Sept. 2111:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.There will be an interdisciplinary panel for faculty to discuss their research projects related to Hispanic Health Disparities. Two faculty members will be selected in advance from each school to present their projects. Robin D. Froman, Ph.D., R.N., dean of the School of Nursing, will moderate this event.
Wednesday, Sept. 225:30 – 7:30 p.m.A wine and cheese reception for the Hispanic Faculty Association. Guests at the event will include the La Raza Organization and Hispanic faculty from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Thursday, Sept. 23 5 – 6:30 p.m.Students will present their scientific and clinical posters in the Briscoe Library Foyer. Winners of the Scientific and Clinical Poster Awards will be announced at the event. Posters will be displayed beginning 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20 in the library foyer.
