Quilt drawing on Oct. 5-7 to benefit United Way and Medical School Class of 2007The Medical School Class of 2007 will be collecting donations to support education. By making a minimum donation, participants will be eligible for a drawing to win an exquisite, hand-tooled quilt generously donated to the class by Dr. Barbara Lawrence, wife of Dr. Leonard Lawrence, associate dean for student affairs in the School of Medicine. Donations will be accepted October 5-7 during lunch in the Pestana Lecture Hall foyer by the Subway. One-half of the proceeds will be donated to the United Way.
National Depression Screening Day is ThursdayNational Depression Screening DayŽ (NDSD) is from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 in the hallway between Subway and Java City in the School of Medicine.
Jair Soares, M.D., associate professor of psychiatry and radiology, chief in the division of mood and anxiety disorders and Krus endowed chair, and a research team from the division of mood and anxiety disorders will provide anonymous screenings.
All related material will be given to participants at the end of the screening. No information of any kind will be kept at the end of participation, but if the participant wishes, the research team will refer them to Health Science Center counseling services, and/or provide a referral in the community for them to seek appropriate treatment.
NDSD provides screening, and referral for prevalent, under-diagnosed and treatable mental disorders, such as depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Association of Retirees and Associates meeting is Oct. 27The Association of Retirees and Associates is having a meeting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 in Room 1.102 in the School of Allied Health. Marilyn Harrington, Ph.D., dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, will be the guest speaker at the meeting.
