Larry Fowler, M.D., associate professor in the department of pathology, has been elected to serve as chairman of the Pathology Residency Directors National Organization (PRODS) until 2006.
Dr. Fowler received the distinction at the July meeting of the Association of Pathology Chairs (APC). The APC is a national organization that provides education, training, information and networking opportunities for pathology chairs, residency program directors, graduate student program directors and department administrators.
From 2002 to 2004 Dr. Fowler served as the vice chairman of the PRODS Council.
He is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the Texas Society of Cytology and the American Society of Cytology. He has written many papers and abstracts and his been a reviewer for several books and peer-reviewed journals. He joined UTHSCSA in 1993 and has been the pathology program director since 1996. Dr. Fowler also is Director of the Fine Needle Aspiration Service and is currently Interim Director of the Autopsy Service. His research interests include use of ancillary testing for cytology specimens including use of proteomic patterns by SELDI-TOF methodology.
