After an extensive national search, Terry S. LeGrand, Ph.D., R.R.T., has been selected to lead the department of respiratory care in the School of Allied Health Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
“I look forward to working with Dr. LeGrand as she builds on the outstanding national reputation of our Department of Respiratory Care,” said Marilyn S. Harrington, Ph.D., dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences. “I’m confident that Dr. LeGrand’s vision for the department will lead in new directions, particularly in expanding the capacity of the faculty to be even more productive in research and other scholarly activities.”
Dr. LeGrand received a bachelor of science degree in cardiopulmonary science from the Louisiana State University Medical Center and a doctorate in cellular physiology from the Louisiana State University School of Graduate Studies. She practiced as a hospital respiratory therapist for four years in Shreveport. Dr. LeGrand served as the director of clinical education in the respiratory care department at the Health Science Center for seven years.
Dr. LeGrand has published 21 articles related to research in teaching and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2001. She has published 26 research articles and abstracts in peer reviewed journals. Most recently her research has concentrated on disease management for people with asthma. Dr. LeGrand was selected as the Berneice Castella Allied Health Chair in Aging Research and Geriatric Science in 2001. Dr. LeGrand has served the university in several positions including chair of the Institutional Research Grant Committee from 2001 to 2003 and is currently a member of the Executive Research Committee Research Fund Committee.
